You’re all eyes lately,
Big and baby blue
With harsh black ringed around them
In a perfect circle.
It’s like
You’re fading slowly,
Pieces of you falling into your eyes
Like clods of dirt into an eroding river bed.
These are not the things I used to notice,
Or love.
It was your smile
Or your animated expression.
I can’t help but write
Like you’re dead.
Someone said once that
I look like your brother does-
enough to be his sister.
And yours.
You’re all eyes lately,
Big and baby wounded
With dark circles underneath them
That all the tears in the world
Won’t ever wash away.
